About the program

The Restart Teaching program is a 20-hour online program, which includes self-paced and facilitated modules across 13 weeks. You will learn about the current curriculum and pedagogy from highly experienced, qualified facilitators currently working as teachers within Queensland state schools.

The program has been endorsed by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) and is delivered online through our eLearning hub, the Learning Place. It will get you up-to-date with the current curriculum frameworks, teaching and learning practices, and legislative and legal responsibilities in contemporary school settings.

The program consists of four online modules:

  • Module 1: Returning to the Teaching Profession (self-paced module)
  • Module 2: Positive Learning Environments (self-paced module)
  • Module 3: Teaching in the Contemporary Classroom (facilitated module)
  • Module 4: Engaging the Contemporary Learner (facilitated module).

Modules 1 and 2 are self-paced and run over 6 weeks. Modules 3 and 4 are facilitated online through the Learning Place and continue for a further 7 weeks. The facilitated component provides you opportunities to engage with an experienced teacher throughout the program.

Program requirements and cost

The program costs $440 and is tax deductible once you are back in the classroom. The program is available to you if you are a:

  • current Queensland state school teacher
  • teacher returning to teaching in a Queensland state school after extended leave or a period of absence from the classroom
  • teacher who has never taught in a classroom since obtaining your teaching qualifications
  • interstate or international teacher seeking employment in Queensland state schools
  • teacher with a Return to Teaching condition on your teacher registration
  • teacher who needs to meet a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirement for your teacher registration
  • non-state school teacher preparing to transition to a Queensland state school.

Program completion

You’ll be issued with a certificate on completion of your Restart Teaching program. You must then submit this certificate to the QCT as evidence that you’ve met the RTT condition associated with your teacher registration. Alternatively, you may use the certificate as evidence of CPD.

To receive your certificate of completion, you are required to:

  • complete the module 1 and 2 online assessment with 100% accuracy
  • complete module 3 and 4 workbooks to a satisfactory standard as deemed by the online facilitator.

How to apply

Expressions of interest are now open for the semester 2 2021 intake that starts on Monday 9 August 2021. Program applications will close Friday 23 July 2021.

Step 1: Express your interest.

Step 2: Submit your teacher registration form to the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT).

Step 3: Apply for teacher employment in a Queensland state school.
