Our schools

WebPartZone1_1
PublishingPageContent

Queensland is a huge state and our schools are (almost) everywhere. Roughly 37% of our schools are in major cities, with the rest in regional or remote communities. We offer a range of teaching environments from hospital schools to special schools and schools in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Almost half of our schools have less than 200 students.

If you teach in a school outside our major cities, you may be eligible to receive additional rural and remote benefits, like extra leave, subsidised accommodation and a larger number of opportunities for permanent employment. It's worth exploring if you're open to relocation.

Our regions

Our state schools are clustered into seven regions each offering distinct benefits and experiences. Click on the map below to explore these regions.

Our mobile workforce

Permanent state school teachers can request a move to another location through a range of employee mobility arrangements. For classroom teachers, this is called teacher transfer, and for classified teachers (e.g. principals), this is referred to as relocation. Once you're working permanently with us and have completed a minimum period of service in a school location (this varies from 2 years to 3 years depending on the role and school location), you can apply to move to another school in Queensland.

You can search our schools directory map to find out more about individual school locations and regional boundaries.
