We love that you've chosen to teach in a Queensland state school. Our teachers are proud community members striving to make a positive change for their students.

There are a few ways you can secure a teaching job with us, which might depend on your needs and the opportunities available. So, whether you're looking for casual, temporary, or permanent roles – here's a quick guide to finding and applying for the right one for you.

  • Step 1
Submit your application in our teacher recruitment pool

Whether you want casual, temporary or permanent employment, or you want to work in a metro, rural or remote location, it's mandatory that you submit an application for employment with us, so you can be considered for vacancies in our state schools.

Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered and contacted about upcoming positions that match your location and teaching preferences. Apply at any time.

Once your application has been accepted, it's a good idea to periodically check that your details are up to date, so we can match you to the kind of job you're looking for. You can update your application details with us at any time by emailing us at teacherapplications@qed.qld.gov.au or calling 1300 832 244.

  • Step 2
Search and apply for permanent and temporary opportunities

From time to time, we advertise on SmartJobs and LinkedIn with permanent and temporary vacancies on. If there's a location, learning phase, or subject area you're interested in, we recommend being proactive and searching and applying for these opportunities directly.

You can also register for SmartJob email alerts and connect with us via our newsletter for the latest vacancy listings, professional development opportunities and more.

  • Step 3
    Let us know you're looking

You may wish to contact our regional recruiters and individual school principals directly to let them know what kind of teaching job you're looking for. Check out the map of our schools to find out where they're located across Queensland.

How to apply for casual and temporary teaching jobs

If you indicate a preference for teaching in a casual and/or temporary capacity on your application for teacher employment, you'll automatically be activated in the MyHR Recruitment TRACER system and allocated a username and password for your account.

We use the TRACER system to book replacement teachers for casual and short-term temporary vacancies. A member of the TRACER team may contact you directly about suitable casual roles, or short-term temporary roles on behalf of schools, or a school may contact you directly.

Schools will rely on your listed availability to match you with their casual and short-term vacancies, so it's important you keep your details up-to-date.

For queries about your TRACER profile please contact 1300 872 237 or email tracer@qed.qld.gov.au.
