I'm a preservice teacher beginning my teaching career

You're close to graduation and preparing for a long and rewarding teaching career.

The first step for every aspiring teacher is to submit an application in our teacher recruitment pool. Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered for upcoming positions as they arise.

We accept applications all year.

However, we recommend graduates lodge your application as early as possible in the year you are completing your qualification. This ensures you can be considered for early offers of employment.

If you've graduated or you're in your final year of study, follow these steps to apply.

  • Step 1
Submit your application for teacher employment (mandatory)

Download and complete the application form (PDF, 297KB)

As part of your application, you'll also need to provide the following supporting documentation, certified by a Justice of the Peace or an authorised witness:

    • Formal qualification/s
    • Academic transcript (unofficial academic transcript for graduate applicants)
    • Statements of service and/or verifiable teaching experience
    • Identification documents – i.e. birth certificate or passport and if applicable, working visa, marriage or change of name certificate

You can submit your completed application form and supporting documentation via the online application form below.

  • Step 2
Apply for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) (mandatory)

All teachers in Queensland state and non-state schools must hold teacher registration with the QCT. We'll ask for your registration number on our application form, however graduates can still submit an application with us prior to obtaining one (just make sure you're eligible for registration – you can provide your number at a later date).

  • Step 3
    Apply for relevant opportunities

Our teacher application team will process your application and either send you a confirmation email or let you know we need additional information. The confirmation email will provide you with your identification number which will become your employee ID, so keep it somewhere safe.

As you now have an active application with us, your details will be provided to Principals and recruitment teams as vacancies become available.

If you selected ‘casual’ in your employment preferences, our TRACER team will also get in touch with you to complete your TRACER profile.

Here are our tips to expand the number of opportunities available to you:

I'm an experienced teacher / returning to teaching

Experienced teachers can apply for teacher employment with us at any time throughout the year. Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered for upcoming positions as they arise.
